Miriam Barea Sanchis
Miriam Barea Sanchis was born in Alcoi in1997; she is a multidisciplinary artist and a graphic designer.
She graduated at the Universidad Miguel Hernández, Facultad de Bellas Artes, Altea, Alicante, with a major in Plastic Arts, and later completed a Master's degree in Graphic Design at the Escuela Superior de Diseño in Barcelona. She has also pursued complementary professional training in tailoring, photography, and digital marketing.
In her artistic career, she has explored the art of embroidery and transferred the technique to sculptures she creates with recycled embroidery holders to create volumes with them. She is especially captivated by the contrast of the metal and the thread in embroidery, a solid and rigid base pierced by such a soft and subtle technique. With this new approach, her sculptures transform and leave behind the history of embroidery as a craft made by women as a household chore.
She also enjoys working with engraving and photography; both techniques she has also tried to intervene with embroidery. Her upbringing in a country house is reflected in her photographic artwork, which has natural scenery as a reference.
