Miriam Barea Sanchis

Miriam Barea Sanchis (born in Alcoy, 1997) is a visual artist, graphic designer, and president of the DAMAC Collective.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in Plastic Arts from the Altea Faculty at Miguel Hernández University, and later completed a Master’s Degree in Graphic Design at the Barcelona School of Design and Engineering. She also has complementary training in sewing, photography, and digital marketing.

In her artistic practice, she has researched the art of embroidery, bringing the technique into the field of sculpture by transforming the surfaces on which she stitches and creating volumes with them. In doing so, she moves beyond the history of embroidery as a small relief on fabric traditionally carried out by women as domestic work. She is particularly drawn to the contrast between metal and embroidery thread—a strong, rigid material pierced by such a soft and delicate technique.

She also enjoys working with techniques such as printmaking and photography, which she has likewise explored through embroidered interventions. Additionally, having grown up in a country house has greatly influenced part of her artistic career, as she feels deeply connected to creating botanical and artistic photography and using nature as a constant reference.
