Identity, the leitmotif as an expressive and reflective connection of the 7th edition of the FIC - Contemporary Initiatives Front 2025

From October 2 to 5, Villena wielcomes the seventh edition of the Contemporary Initiatives Front (FIC), a multidisciplinary cultural festival that this year presents 22 activities focused on the concept of identity. The event, organized by the Casa de la Cultura (KAKV) in collaboration with the Department of Culture, will feature exhibitions, concerts, video projections, workshops, and performances in various venues throughout the city, such as the MUVI, the San Antón Chapel, and Plaza de Santiago, betting on the fusion of innovation, technology, and disruptive art in the different disciplines that will be present.

The thematic focus coincides with the 500th anniversary of Villena's city status, allowing for an exploration of identity "from the territory, memory, and contemporary practices".

The audiovisual and multimedia proposal will be curated by Alcoy-born artist and art director Jorge Sellés, under a notable selection of renowned international representatives led by creators Doopiidoo, Jose Cruzio, Ellen Sheidlin, Lucas Zanotto, Ras Alhagve, and the BIF collective.

The concept, design, and content for the seventh edition of FIC were defined and developed by Rafael Calbo Such, a prominent Muro de Alcoy-born creative and professor at the EASD (School of Art and Design) in Alcoy, where visual communication is established as a dynamic and versatile identity system.

Identity is one of the great contemporary issues that continues to expand as a flexible and evolving conceptual framework. A term whose polysemy becomes the subject of complex and multifaceted debate, which, evidently, artistic reflection can significantly enrich.

Identity is an experiential reality in which a multitude of factors intervene, intertwining and conditioning each other in a mutable and active way. Therefore, it is embedded within a dynamic of representations that emerge from personal biographies and social relationships. These relationships produce different phases of a changing and diverse personality, depending on the external context and internal and subjective circumstances.
